Norfolk’s Record Setting Night

first_imgFriday night, the Norfolk Tides set a new record for most hits in a game, 23, against the Indianapolis Indians. The 23 hits exceeded two previous marks of 22 hits: 4/22/73 at Pawtucket and 7/19/83 at Toledo.The 23 hits recorded by the Tides also broke the record for most hits for an opponent at Victory Field, the home of the Indianapolis Indians.With the help from his offense, Suk-min Yoon earned his first victory as a Norfolk Tide. Yoon pitched 5.0 innings, allowed five hits and only gave up three earned runs.Yoon left the game with is team leading 4-3 as the Tides would go on to win by a final score of 10-7. The Tides picked up four runs in the seventh inning with two two-run home runs by DH Xavier Paul and third baseman Buck Britton, the younger brother of Zach.The four runs the Tides got in the seventh would make a difference as Indianapolis made a game of it by getting three runs in the eight and another run in the ninth.All of Norfolk’s batters recorded a multi-hit game but Buck Britton led the way with a three hit performance. Britton went three-for-five with three RBI as he was a double shy of the cycle.Britton was recently promoted to AAA Norfolk from AA Bowie. Britton’s performance Friday night was a lot like the show he was putting on with Bowie earlier this season.In 28 games with Bowie, Britton had a .344 average, hit four home runs with 15 RBI. However, in just six games with Norfolk Britton has a .208 average .583 slugging and has hit two homeruns.12 of the 23 hits came off Indianapolis starter Casey Sadler in 4.2 innings, who had let up at total 13 hits in his last three games combined.In 4.2 innings, Sadler gave up four earned runs and earned his first loss on the year. Coming into Friday’s game, Sadler had been dominant in his first four starts on the year posting a 3-0 record with a 1.67 ERA.With momentum going Norfolk’s way right now, they will not have to wait long to play again as the two teams go again tonight. After missing one game with a muscle strain, Kevin Gausman (0-1 2.53) gets the start for Norfolk and Adam Wilk (3-2 5.19) starts for Indianapolis.
