As Mash 2019 fast approaches, Guyanese Soca artistes are making sure that their tracks are ready to hit the airwaves in advance to give their fans a preview of their music. After a few years’ hiatus, Jumo “Rubber Waist” Primo is back with the passion to reclaim the Carib Soca Monarch title that is being owned by Lindener Brandon Harding.Primo, who is no stranger to the Carib Soca Monarch Competition, has participated in the contest five times and won three titles. Earlier in the month, Primo launched his newest sing called “Tribute”. The song was written by the soca sensation, produced by Timon Fraser, and recorded in the 592 Studio. The video for the song was shot in the band room of the Heatwaves Band and produced by Taariq Clarke. The song, according to Primo, is about paying tribute to the musical instruments and more importantly, fuses the old-fashioned way of creating music with the most modern techniques. He added that persons must get an appreciation for the various drums, the bass, the brass, keyboard and others. The fusion, he stated, will create a new breed of music – one with a Guyanese ‘flava’.The semi-finals of the Carib Soca Monarch Competition are expected to be held on February 9 and the finals on February 16.
