The government has now decided to form a committee which will review its recruitment process through the sports quota, where one of the issues will be reviewing whether yoga can be included as a discipline to qualify. The government aims to also review the numerous sports disciplines that would be considered for the recruitment process. Another important aspect is whether the percentage of sports quota recruitment for central government, which is now set at maximum five percent, should be turned into a minimum five percent.A meeting among officials will also be conducted to discuss another important issue, which is to review whether those sportspersons who win medals at big ticket events like Olympics, World Championships, Asian Games and CWG can be promoted to group A and group B in the central government jobs. According to a circular issued by Rakesh Moza, Under Secretary (Ministry of Personal, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel & Training), the committee will comprise the following: Jt Secretary (DOPT) as Convenor along with Jt Secretaries from Sports, Officers associated with employment of sportspersons from ministries of Defence, Railways, Revenue, Petroleum and Natural Gas and Home Affairs. With the Indian sportspersons doing well in recent years, the government has recognised the need to expand the list of disciplines eligible for employment and ensure facilitation of promotion for those already employed.last_img
